With hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as recommendations and refusal, the race as the best prosecutor in Philadelphia is fully in progress.
District prosecutor Larry Krasner submitted an offer of re -election this week, looking for the third term and competing for the democratic nomination before the basic basis on May 20. And Patrick Dugan, a former court judge, is positioned as a more moderate democratic alternative to the progressive dwarf.
The race is one of the brand’s political competitions in Pennsylvania this year and calls on some of the most influential groups in the city against each other. Here are six things to watch when the campaign heats up.
1. Will billionaires from outside the city put his fingers crossed on a scale?
It’s a million – or maybe 5 million – the dollar question arises for the race: where does the money come from?
Usually, local elections over the years are a low attendance, and much less money is spent on advertising. This means that the current ones, such as Krasner, have a great advantage: in his case recognition of names that have been associated with the office for the last eight years.
It also means that everyone can have a great impact by spending money on television advertising. This worked in favor of Krasner in 2017, when the liberal billionaire George Soros poured $ 1.4 million on advertising, increasing his candidacy.

The question is whether the Krasner’s opponent is trying to do the opposite.
All eyes are on Elon Musk, adviser to President Donald Trump who threw $ 250 million on the presidential campaign by his super pac. Musk, the richest man in the world, said he could operate a fortune to direct progressive prosecutors supported by Soros.
There are no tips in this race, but there is a lot of time before May 20. In 2017, the Soros website did not finance ads until the last few weeks of the campaign. The same applies to the mayor of 2023, when GOP Megadonor Jeffrey Yass financed negative ads at the last moment opposing the most progress of the candidate.
Krasner’s camp does not think that referring him to musk would be bad. In this way, Krasner could be an opponent of a republican billionaire who is currently dismantling part of the federal government. Don’t forget: this is a basic democratic.
2. How does the Trump effect affect?
Against the president is a sanctified political tradition, even for local candidates. It is not surprising that Krasner, Trump’s longtime critic, introduces himself not only as a prosecutor, but a defender of American democracy.

The question is how it plays with the main voters in the race, which is traditionally low attendance. This is a good time for a dwarf who campaigns when Trump crosses the borders of his legal power, raises long -term foreign policy and reduces the federal labor force. Krasner can be able to drive attendance, using the intensive frustration of the left towards Trump.
On the other hand, Philadelphians may want to focus more on Philadelphia. He assumes Dugan that a hyperlox approach is more attractive to the type of super-engaged voter who casts voting during the year.
3. Can Krasner survive where his colleagues failed?

Also last year, Krasner announced a recent unit to attack people who repeatedly violate the provisions regarding the possession of weapons. It happened after he was criticized for supervising the decline in the beliefs of people accused of illegal weapons.
4. How does a divided democratic party affect the race? Does it do it?
The leaders of the ward thought they were seeing a recent Krasner. When the District Prosecutor asked the party’s support this year, he avoided clashes with the management of the Democratic City Committee, which he criticized in the past as unnecessary.
“Sometimes he apologized,” said Bob Brady party chairman for many years.
But Kumbaya didn’t survive. The leaders of the branch still voted for the second time in four years to maintain an open base, which means that the party would not support the dwarf, despite the usually supporting democratic sought. Instead, the leaders of 66 individual city totems will choose whether they want to support Krasner, Dugan or nobody.

Krasner said after voting that the indication that party leaders are resistant to progressers and “do not increase the democratic base.” Brady said that the district prosecutor was a “sore loser.”
While Dugan probably won support in some branches, Krasner won skilfully without the support of the City Committee four years ago and has the support of many party leaders. These include some of the most influential officials elected black, such as the chairman of the City Council of Kenyatta Johnson and the longtime senator of State Anthony “Hardy” Williams.
5. Is the mayor of Parker enter the game?
Another huge question is who wins the support of the leader of the 50th unit: Mayor of Cherlle L. Parker.
The mayor comes from a political coalition based in a northwestern city, a home for some of the highest revolutions in the city. The Northwest coalition, led by Mentor Parker, a former member of councilor Marian Tasco, helped raise the Krasner to the office for the first time in 2017.
Parker ran to the mayor two years ago with a strenuous tone, but she tried not to criticize Krasner. Since she took office over a year ago, Parker decided to appear next to the District Prosecutor after solemn criminal incidents and they predicted a united front.
But Dugan clearly fights for some Parker supporters. He was supported by Philadelphia Building Trades & Construction Council, which helped the Mayor to win in 2023, and Dugan clearly used the slogan of the Parker campaign, saying in the communiqué this month that he wants “safer, green, cleaner philadelphia.” (Parker usually says “safer, cleaner, more ecological” in this order).
Until now, Parker was a mother in the race. We’ll see if it lasts.
6. Relations are bending. But can they win this time?
Speaking of construction transactions: politically influential and deeply defective umbrella organization 30 compounds throws money on the Dugan Run (except for one local supporting Krasner). Ryan Boyer and Wayne Miller, the two best trade leaders in buildings, chairing the Dugan campaign.
This is a bit of political risk for construction, which did not support any of the candidates in the race of the District Prosecutor in 2021. Dugan is not as known as Krasner.

But there is a reward with risk. If Dugan won, it would be seen as the main win for commercial construction and would represent the second time in three years, when the group helped install the preferred candidate in enormous elections in the whole city.
One of the relationship so far is the brotherly police order 5, which represents current and retired police officers in Philadelphia. The group supported the pretender Krasner in 2021, and its former leader, John Mcnesby, was one of the main opponents of the District Prosecutor, often hitting him in public. Krasner’s victory this year was a huge political blow to FOP.
But the relationship has a recent leader: Poplar Roosevelt, which Krasner praised. Poplar did not say much about the dwarf in public and it is not clear whether this time the police relationship will even commit support.
