The lieutenant governor sets the date for the special election in the 36th Senatorial District

In his constitutional role as President of the State Senate, Lt. Governor Austin Davis set the date for the Pennsylvania 36th special electionvol Senate District for Tuesday, March 25.

State Senator Ryan Aument he resigned on December 31, leaving 36vol A vacant seat in the district. Pursuant to state election codein the event of a vacancy in the state legislature, the speaker of the House or Senate has 10 days to issue a mandate for a special election to fill the seat. Special elections may be held no earlier than 60 days from the date of issuance of the order.

“People of Pennsylvania 36vol The Senate District deserves representation as lawmakers consider the state budget and the many important issues facing our commonwealth,” Davis said. “After consulting with Senate Republican and Democratic leadership, I have decided to schedule a special election for this seat on Tuesday, March 25. I encourage everyone eligible to vote in the district to make their voices heard at the ballot box on or before that day.

“Finally, I wish Senator Aument all the best in his new role serving the people of Pennsylvania as Senator (Dave) McCormick state director. It was great working with him in the Senate, and I hope we can continue to work together on state and federal issues.”

Four Republicans and one Democrat have expressed interest in the vacancy. Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons, Representative Brett Miller (R-Lancaster), high school teacher Steven Heffnerand a retired truck driver Brad Witmer are seeking the GOP nomination, and Ursinus College technology librarian Mateusz Dobry he’s the only Democrat to announce it.

The 36vol Senate District located in Lancaster County and includes the municipalities of Akron, Columbia Borough, Conoy Township, Earl Township, East Donegal Township, East Hempfield Township, East Petersburg Borough, Elizabeth Township, Elizabethtown Borough, Ephrata Borough, Ephrata Township, Lititz Borough, Manheim Borough, Manheim Township, Marietta Borough, Mount Joy Borough, Mount Joy Township, Mountville Borough, New Holland Borough, Penn Borough, Rapho Borough, Borough Warwick, West Donegal Borough, West Earl Borough and West Hempfield Borough.
