Bachenberg challenges Rothman for GOP chairman

The race for success Lawrence Tabas has a recent candidate for chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party.

Bill BachenbergLehigh Valley businessman and prominent supporter President-elect Donald Trumphe threw his hat into the ring by questioning the state Senator Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland).

“Since the announcement of the candidate for the Chairman of PAGOP Ted Christian As they withdraw from the race, many Republican leaders, voters, grassroots supporters and donors are looking for a chairman who will support their values and beliefs,” Bachenberg said in the release. “They are looking for a President who believes in integrity, trust and transparency and who has a strategic vision for the future with proven leadership that can unite all PA citizens for a greater Commonwealth.

“This grassroots campaign is self-financed and uncompromising – without consultants, without political support and without ulterior motives. I am committed to providing leadership with trust, transparency and honesty, ensuring this is a movement for meaningful change and not a stepping stone to personal ambition.”

Rothman, 58, appeared to be Tabas’ successor after Christian announced two weeks ago that he was dropping out of the race and endorsing the former Cumberland County GOP chairman. He also received the support of the newly elected Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormickbut also Republic of the USA by Dan Meuser (R-09).

“Greg is a state senator, Marine, successful businessman, former state representative and former chairman of the Cumberland County Republican Party who has led our state party through many different phases,” McCormick wrote. “He has the political knowledge and relationships to maintain the progress we have made this cycle and make Pennsylvania a powerful Republican state.”

Meuser, who reportedly has gubernatorial aspirations, wrote on Twitter that Rothman, whom he called a longtime friend and Republican stalwart, “will provide leadership that will take our AP GOP to even greater heights.”

But critics accuse Rothman of having too much political baggage, and his ties to some political committees cast doubt on his commitment to the GOP base.

Former Cumberland County Commissioner Gary Eichelberger he even wrote to McCormickcalling Rothman “a self-proclaimed ‘winner’ whose sole purpose is to climb the political ladder and enrich himself by capturing rising stars, regardless of party or other label, as long as they serve his purpose.”

Bachenberg, who is also the first vice president of the National Rifle Association (NRA), may also want to get his group back into Trump’s good graces.

Last month, Bachenberg, Trump’s 2024 Pennsylvania presidential elector, said in a letter to NRA members that the association needs to rebuild trust in Trump and his close associates.

“I can say with certainty that President Trump and his inner circle have lost faith in the NRA,” he wrote. “We have a lot of work to rebuild trust in them, as well as in our members and donors.”

According to the New York Times, one of Trump’s problems is the tens of millions of dollars paid by the NRA William A. Brewer IIIlawyer whose political contributions “have favored Democrats for years.”
