Dave McCormickwho unsuccessfully ran for the GOP Senate nomination two years ago, ended his comeback with a victory over the three-term incumbent Bob Casey Jr.
The Associated Press called the race at 4:09 p.m., ending a nearly 40-year Casey dynasty serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“Congratulations to Dave McCormick on an incredible win,” he said Steve DainesChairman of the NRSC. “Dave ran a best-in-class campaign, ended a political dynasty, and now he will use his considerable skills to bring bold new leadership to the United States Senate on behalf of all Pennsylvanians. I look forward to working with Dave to secure the border and lower prices for the American people.”
At 4:35 p.m., McCormick’s lead was still within the 0.5% threshold that would require an automatic recount. His advantage is 31,930 votes, or 0.47%.
McCormick lost in 2022 to Mehmet Oz in the GOP primary, which was decided by 950 votes. Oz would lose the general election to a Democrat John Fetterman.
“As Secretary of State of Pennsylvania said this afternoon that tens of thousands of ballots remain to be counted across the commonwealth, including provisional ballots, military and overseas ballots, and absentee ballots,” spokesman Casey said Maddy McDaniel. “This race is a half-point contest and cannot be called until the votes of thousands of Pennsylvanians are counted. We will make sure the voice of every Pennsylvanian is heard.”
