Biden will campaign for Casey in Pennsylvania at a private fundraiser

President Joe Biden will travel to the Philadelphia area on Tuesday for a campaign event supporting U.S. Senator Bob Casey (R-Pennsylvania), the White House announced.

Biden is scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee early Tuesday to promote his administration’s work to “replace lead pipes and create good-paying jobs.” Details about the Pennsylvania campaign event were not available Monday.

Biden is a longtime ally of Casey, a fellow Scranton native.

Casey endorsed Biden just minutes after his official announcement his presidential candidacy in April 2019.

During Biden’s State of the Union address in March this year. the president shouted “Bobby” Casey and summoned Congress enact the Casey Act to curb “contractile inflation” – Casey’s preferred term for corporate price gouging.

Casey, who is seeking a fourth term in the U.S. Senate, supported Biden when there were calls for him to step down from the presidential race. On the same day, Biden announced that he would not seek re-election in July, Casey joined Biden in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy for president.

Casey’s Republican opponent, Dave McCormick, frequently criticized the incumbent during the campaign for voting with the Biden-Harris administration.

“Senator Casey stood next to Joe Biden as he struggled to finish his sentence,” McCormick said in a statement to the Capital-Star on Monday. “He continues to lie to the Commonwealth about the president’s declining mental acuity, but now, months later, he wants to campaign with him as if nothing happened. This is the utter weakness that Pennsylvanians have come to expect from the liberal Casey, and that is why they will vote for a strong, independent voice on November 5.”

Casey’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

While Biden has been on the back burner of the campaign since stepping out of the top spots, this won’t be the first time he’s campaigned in Pennsylvania since he withdrew. He spent Labor Day in Pittsburgh with Harris promoting his candidacy for the White House among steelworkers.

Biden’s last visit to the state was on September 16 for an official visit to Philadelphia for the 2024 National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week conference.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, has two rallies scheduled for Wednesday in Pennsylvaniaincluding one in Biden’s hometown of Scranton. Former President Barack Obama will be campaigning on behalf of Harris’ ticket in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Polls show Trump and Harris in a tough spot, winning Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes, while Casey appears to have a slight lead over McCormick. This is described by the Cook Political Report, a national ratings outlet presidential race in the Keystone State as a toss-up, while determining the race between Casey and McCormick as a Democrat supporter.
