Former president Donald Trump said Sunday he “doesn’t think” he would run for president again in 2028 if he fails to return to the White House in 2024.
“No, I don’t. I think that will be it, that will be it,” Trump said when asked by reporter Sharyl Attkisson if he would run again.
The comment was notable both because Trump seemed to rule out a fourth run for the White House and because he rarely acknowledges that he could legitimately lose an election. Trump usually argues that would only happen if there was widespread fraud, false accusation he did it in 2020 and it is made preventively again during his 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump would be 82 in 2028, a year older than President Joe Biden. Biden withdrew from the race in July after his disastrous debate performance and months of criticism from Trump and other conservatives who said he was too venerable and unpredictable for the job.
Attkisson interviewed Trump for her show “Full Measure.” Also during the 22-minute interview, Trump defended his record on the coronavirus pandemic. He took credit for COVID-19 vaccines developed during his presidency, while saying that “they’re doing research on the vaccines and we’ll find out” if they’re protected.
Trump said Republicans are increasingly skeptical of vaccines, even as Democrats trust them.
The 2028 announcement came at the very end of an interview that also included a question about how Trump maintains his health. “I try to eat right,” the former president said, prompting an incredulous response from Attkisson, who noted that Trump has become known for his love of hamburgers.
“Real hamburgers,” Trump said.
