Haley Voters For Harris Aims to Unite Democrats and Republicans

Craig Snyder, a registered Republican in Philadelphia and director of Haley Voters for Harris, knew he would attend the Democratic National Convention as soon as he learned former President Donald Trump would be the Republican Party’s nominee in 2024.

Snyder has headed Haley Voters for Harris (HV4H), a Philadelphia-based group made up of Nikki Haley voters and anti-Trump Republicans that is calling on supporters of the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy this November.

Four people involved in the group, including Snyder, were at the Democratic convention in Chicago this week, where they represented Harris, networked with Democrats and other anti-Trump Republicans and reinforced the message of their upcoming campaign to mass voter outreach in Pennsylvania and other key battleground states.

The PivotPAC-backed group made headlines last month after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Haley for what it said was her association with her support for Harris. Haley has endorsed Trump and spoke at last month’s Republican National Convention.

The organization HV4H, which is not affiliated with Haley, said it “will not cease or desist from its activities.”

The DNC is focused on building a bipartisan coalition and making connections on behalf of HV4H, Snyder said, by meeting with Democrats at Pennsylvania delegation breakfasts or attending informal social gatherings with Republicans at a rooftop bar near Chicago’s North Side.

“We wanted to really connect with other like-minded people and continue to send the message, both inside and outside the Democratic Party, that this is a coalition and that a coalition is required to win this election,” said Snyder, a former chief of staff to the overdue Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter.

HV4H members can relate to the DNC’s message of “the need to listen to people who disagree with them,” Snyder said. It’s an approach HV4H is trying to take, especially as they prepare to launch a series of pro-Harris messages aimed at Haley and center-right voters in Pennsylvania and other swing states. In Pennsylvania, the ads will be mostly focused on Philadelphia and its suburbs.

HV4H wants to start rolling out targeted text messages and ads on YouTube and social media to moderate Republicans after Labor Day, with plans to ramp up the pace from there. They are currently testing a range of video ads and other content to see which messages resonate most.

“It won’t be something that everyone will see, but the people who need to see it, the people who will benefit from it, will see it a lot,” Snyder said.

Matthew McCaffery, a former Montgomery County Republican who was “swatted” for supporting Harris, will be the group’s spokesman. The group’s ads will also feature his voice, Snyder said. McCaffery, who appeared in a DNC video Wednesday night, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“What is very important is that [voters] “Hearing from messengers that they can trust and believe in, from people who they feel share their values and, in many cases, their story,” Snyder said.

HV4H sees a chance to present its case to Harris nearly 160,000 other registered Republicans in Pennsylvania which provided Haley with nearly 17% of the state’s vote during the primary despite her withdrawal from the race.

And the reception from most Democrats was “benevolent,” Snyder said.

Harris’ campaign is inviting anti-Trump and Republican voters to her base. At the DNC, several participants and speakers – and one host — whether Republicans are united in the fight against Trump’s reelection. Former President Bill Clinton also thanked Republicans for supporting Harris during his prime-time speech at the DNC on Wednesday.

“There is an old saying that used to be widely accepted: ‘Politics is about addition, not subtraction,’” Snyder said.

This is a proverb that the group intends to follow until the end of November.
