CBS News Gives Walz, Vance Four Possible Dates for Vice Presidential Debate

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, has agreed to a debate with Republican vice presidential candidate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R., Ohio) on Oct. 1.

CBS News, which will host the debate in New York, gave the candidates four date options: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8.

“Harris for President has accepted CBS’s invitation to the vice presidential debate on October 1. Governor Walz looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he shows up,” a Harris campaign official said in a statement.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Vance said during an interview on Fox News Wednesday night that he would “definitely” debate Walz and told host Laura Ingraham that he would like to attend more than one event. But he did not commit to debating Walz on CBS on Oct. 1.

“I strongly suspect we’ll be there on October 1st, but we’re not going to have one of these fake debates where there’s no audience, where you don’t set the parameters in a way that allows for a good exchange of ideas,” Vance said. “In other words, we’re not going to get into a junk media, fake news debate.”

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will meet for the first presidential debate on September 10. The debate, hosted by ABC, will be the first head-to-head between Harris and Trump since her nomination.

Back on ABC, Trump said the debate would take place in Philadelphia at Independence Hall, but the network has not yet confirmed the venue or location of the event.

Trump has offered Harris two other debates — one on Fox News in front of a live audience on September 4 and the other on NBC on September 25.

Harris campaign he told ABC News last week, she did not want to debate Trump on Fox on September 4, with any future debates contingent on the former president appearing at the September 10 event, adding that she was willing to discuss any future dates.
