Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will visit Pennsylvania this week as their opponents continue to focus on key battleground states in the presidential race.
Democrat Harris is scheduled to appear alongside President Joe Biden in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Thursday in the couple’s first joint campaign event since Biden announced last month that he would not seek reelection. They will discuss “the progress they’ve made to lower the costs to the American people,” the White House said.
Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will be will be appearing this week in Newport, RI and South Hampton, NY on Thursday on his first solo tour since Harris named him her running mate. Harris and Walz hit the road together last week in key swing states, kicking off with a stop at the Liacouras Center in North Philadelphia.
Harris is also scheduled to speak at a campaign event in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday.
Harris and Walz will return to Pennsylvania on Sunday for a bus tour of Pittsburgh, where they are scheduled to visit several locations in the western part of the state before the Democratic National Convention begins in Chicago Aug. 19-22.
Dubbed the “on the road to Chicago” trip, the initiative will include community outreach and visits to local businesses and campaign events, the Harris-Walz campaign announced Wednesday. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz will join the trip, which will be the first joint campaign event for all four.
Trump’s Republican vice presidential candidate, Senator J.D. Vance (Republican of Ohio), will visit the Keystone State on Thursday with expected stop at the VFW in New Kensington in Westmoreland County, where he is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. Vance will then head to Milwaukee for the next campaign event on Friday.
Trump himself will be in New Jersey on Thursday a press conference is scheduled at his Bedminster Golf Clubwhich is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., Trump’s campaign announced on Wednesday.
Trump is scheduled to return to Pennsylvania on Saturday for a rally in Wilkes-Barre at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. It will be his second appearance in Pennsylvania since surviving an assassination attempt in Butler County on July 13. Two weeks after that incident, Trump returned to Pennsylvania for the first time with a rally in Harrisburg.
Speaking with Elon Musk at X Spaces on Monday, Trump said his campaign would return to Butler for another rally in October. Last month, Trump announced on social media that the rally would honor Corey Comperatore, the former Buffalo Township fire chief who was killed in the July 13 attack, as well as two other people injured in the shooting.
Trump also claimed that ABC’s planned September 10 presidential debate will take place in Philadelphia at Independence Hall. However, the network told The Inquirer that the location and venue for the debate have not yet been confirmed.
