Paul Dansdirector of the Heritage Foundation Project 2025resigned from his position in the conservative group.
The move is significant because the former president Donald Trump has increasingly distanced himself from Project 2025 in recent weeks as Democrats seized on the plan to portray it as a threat to democracy.
Organized by the Heritage Foundation, Project 2025 brought together more than 45 right-wing organizations whose goal was to rebuild the country through a combination of appropriate policies and support of well-trained people.
In a statement, the president of the think tank Kevin Roberts said that when Project 2025 began in 2022, “we set a timeline for the project to complete its policy development after this year’s bipartisan conventions, and we are sticking to that timeline.
“Paul, who built the project from the ground up and has courageously led it for the past two years, will be leaving the team and moving to the front lines where the fight continues,” Roberts said. “We are incredibly grateful for his work and everyone’s dedication to saving America, and we will continue our collective efforts to build a cadre of decision-makers at all levels—federal, state, and local.”
Susie Wiles AND Chris LaCivita issued a statement continuing to distance himself from Trump’s Project 2025 campaign.
“President Trump’s campaign has made it clear for over a year that The 2025 Project has nothing to do with the campaign, does not speak on its behalf, and should in no way be associated with the campaign or the president.
“Reports of the demise of Project 2025 would be welcome and should serve as a warning to anyone or any group attempting to misrepresent their influence over President Trump and his campaign – it will not end well for you.”
Julie Chavez RodriguezHarris’ campaign manager issued a statement attempting to link Project 2025 to the former president’s campaign.
“Project 2025 is on the ballot because Donald Trump is on the ballot. It is his plan, written by his allies, that Donald Trump is going to impose on our country.
“Hiding the 920-page bill from the American people doesn’t make it any less real — in fact, it should make voters more concerned about what else Trump and his allies are hiding.
“Vice President Harris has built a career on exposing liars and cheats like Donald Trump and stopping dangerous conspiracies like Project 2025 from making people’s lives worse. This election will be no different.”
