IN Friday Morning Talk on KDKA RadioUS Senate candidate Dave McCormick he suggested that after Joe Biden performance during the debate with Donald Trump that Americans should worry about their current president.
“As an American, let’s put politics aside for a moment, we should be concerned,” McCormick told the host. Marty Griffin“Our founders, our forefathers, had a certain vision on this. They had something called the 25th Amendment. If the people around the president feel that he is not capable of fulfilling his duties in wartime … then they have an obligation to recognize that and possibly replace the president.
“(The debate) reinforced the idea that we need new leadership,” he continued. “We need new leadership in the White House. We need new leadership in the Senate. We need people who are going to look to the future and confront these problems, bring sanity and stability to our economic policy, to our border, to our role in the world.”
Griffin pressed McCormick on whether 25th Amendment should be invoked now.
“I think if what we saw last night is a reflection of what he’s like on a daily basis, when they’re sitting down with him, talking about how to deal with Iran, the possibility of Iran having nuclear weapons, attacking U.S. troops in Syria … if the man who got confused and turned around is the man they deal with every day, if you’re the secretary of defense or the attorney general or the secretary of state, you have an obligation to say, hey, wait, this guy is not fit for this job. So yes, I’m saying that.”
Former Attorney General William Barr also appeared with McCormick and agreed with the GOP Senate candidate that the 25th Amendment should be considered.
“I think that’s something that needs to be clearly considered at this point. I think it shows what we’re missing in the United States right now, which is leaders who don’t cling to their jobs. The most crucial thing in their lives is to keep their jobs, so they won’t take risks. They won’t say things that are unpopular or take actions that need to be taken because they’re making political calculations all the time. I have hope for our country, even though we’re facing all these challenges, as long as people who are good leaders are willing to do the right thing. That’s why I’m behind Dave. That’s why I’m here, because I know he’s that kind of leader.”
Barr said that if the decision were up to him today, he would not replace Biden.
“I can’t say that. I don’t know enough about the situation,” he continued. “I think we have to be really careful because if this becomes a way to weed out unpopular presidents, it will lead to much more volatility in our system. Personally, I think he’s unfit for office.”
During a rally in North Carolina on Friday, Biden praised his debate performance.
“I’m not a young man to state the obvious,” Biden said. “I don’t walk as easily as I used to, I don’t talk as fluently as I used to, I don’t argue as well as I used to, but I know what I know. I know how to tell the truth,” he said. “I know what’s right and what’s wrong. When you fall, you get back up.”
McCormick also used the radio opportunity to fire back at his Democratic opponent, saying, “He’s become a creature of Washington. Bob Casey has become what our founders never hoped for, which is a career politician. And he’s been in Washington as a senator for 18 years. He voted with Joe Biden 98 percent of the time. And, you know, I just finished this 67-county tour, right, 42,000 miles on my campaign bus. And the thing I hear over and over again is we never saw Bob Casey.
“I would be honored to have the job because I want to serve, but I don’t need the job. And that’s the difference between me and Bob Casey, and that’s the difference in the kind of leadership that I talk about on the campaign trail.”
When asked to respond, Casey replied, “I am fighting for Pennsylvania against an opponent who sells out working people to enrich himself, invests in Chinese military companies, and cheers when Roe v. Wade has been repealed. Pennsylvanians deserve someone who fights for working families, not billionaires.”
