Fetterman says no to Blanche

Senator John Fetterman says he will vote “no” on confirmation Todd Blanche for the Prosecutor General.

Blanche, who was confirmed as deputy attorney general in early 2025, faces a bumpy road in the Senate, and Fetterman’s potential flip and insurance vote has complicated his chances.

Many key Republicans did not immediately commit to support President Donald Trump candidate for the position of director of the Department of Justice was expected.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (RS.D.) said it was “difficult to say” whether Blanche would encounter difficulties in the Upper House on her path to success Pam Bondi as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

With a 53-47 Senate majority, Trump’s nominees can afford to lose three Republican votes and still be confirmed as Vice President J.D. Vance he would tear off any tie.

But the bigger hurdle may be getting Blanche through the Senate Judiciary Committee, where an objection from one Republican is enough to hold up the nomination unless the nominee can get assist from Democrats on the panel. It is unlikely that Blanche would receive such bipartisan support.

Interestingly, His. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who was just defeated by Ken Paxton for the Republican Party’s nomination for Texas Attorney General, serves on the committee. Paxton received Trump’s endorsement, which gave Thune no reason to support the president’s election.

“I think it depends on his answers to the questions I’m going to ask him in the Judiciary Committee,” Thune said. “The attorney general is not the president’s private lawyer, so this is inherently a really difficult task, but I want to make sure he understands the difference and will make every effort to ensure the law is enforced,” Cornyn said.
