Cabelle St. Johnwho performed the function Senator John Fetterman The chief of staff from June 2025 resigned from his position on Wednesday.
He becomes the third chief of staff under Fetterman to leave his office.
St. John joined Fetterman’s team as Chief Scheduling Officer in January 2023, then became Senior Advisor in March 2024 and Deputy Chief of Staff a year later. She served as Fetterman’s principal advisor on communications, strategy and organizational management, overseeing integrated planning across the press, digital, political and stakeholder relations departments.

In response, the senator pointed out that the turnover in his office was at the level of other legislators.
New York Magazine reports that Fetterman isolates himself from colleagues and other advisers but has become close to them David “Dovi” Safiera writer whose work focuses on contemporary Jewish history, as well as on raising money for Orthodox causes. Despite overwhelming votes among Democrats, Fetterman remains unpopular within the party due to his willingness to ally with it President Donald Trump on issues like his vote to kill the Democrat-passed Iran war powers resolution.
“Something like this is much more important than just voting on what your base might want. Because I think the issues are much bigger and more important. And Iran having a nuclear bomb is one of those things” – Fetterman Semafor said in an interview published on Mondaydiscussing opposition to legislation to end President Trump’s war with Iran.
These positions and votes have set the ball rolling for Pennsylvania Democrats as they consider a primary for Fetterman’s seat in 2028. The names floating around include current Pennsylvania Representatives Brendan Boyle (D-02) i Chris Deluzio (D-17), as well as the former US Representative Conor Lambwho was defeated by Fetterman in the 2022 Democratic primary.
Fetterman continues to struggle in popularity polls with voters. In a February Quinnipiac University poll62 percent of Pennsylvania Democratic voters disapproved of the senator’s job performance. Meanwhile, nearly three-quarters of Republicans surveyed approved of Fetterman’s efforts in the Senate.
