It’s official. President Donald Trump approved State Treasurer Stacy Garrity for Governor of Pennsylvania.
In a social media post Tuesday evening, Trump announced that Garrity has “total and total support to be the next Governor of Pennsylvania,” adding in all caps: “SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN.”
The 45th and 47th presidents made some noise during their December trip to Mount Pocono by introducing a number of Pennsylvania Republican Party officials to the audience, but left out Garrity. This has led some to speculate that Trump may not support a candidate from Bradford County for the state’s top job.
In his post, Trump called her “America’s true First Patriot who has been with me from the beginning.”
Garrity said she was honored to receive the president’s endorsement.
“In 2016, President Trump did what no Republican candidate had done in 28 years – win the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” she said in a statement. “And in 2024, he repeated the feat with an even greater margin. Why? Because President Trump was the voice of hardworking Americans who were too often left behind, standing up to our international adversaries like China, lowering the tax burden on families and small businesses, and restoring the pride of our nation.”
“Josh Shapiro he has done everything in his power to stand in President Trump’s way, suing his administration over twenty times. Josh Shapiro is President Trump’s number one opponent, and I look forward to working with President Trump and his team to defeat Josh Shapiro in November.”
Garrity also said in a fundraising email that the endorsement ensures that “the left will come to us with everything they have.
“This race is no longer just about our Republic. This is currently one of the most significant elections in the entire country. If we take decisive action now, we will build a grassroots campaign mighty enough to win… and mighty enough to oppose what is coming.
“Together we will win Pennsylvania. Together we will deliver for America. Thank you for being with me. Thank you for being with President Trump.”
Pennsylvania Democrats were quick to respond to Trump’s endorsement.
“Stacy Garrity is an extreme, toxic candidate who is trying to bring Trump’s dangerous and chaotic agenda in Washington here to Pennsylvania – and Donald Trump’s endorsement proves it,” said PA Dems Chairman Eugene DePasquale. “She supports cutting health care to pay for tax cuts for billionaires even as tens of thousands lose insurance, opposes tax cuts for working families here in Pennsylvania, supports limiting access to abortion in Pennsylvania, and said it’s great fun to spread disinformation about the 2020 election.
“Pennsylvanians deserve better than a governor who is nothing more than a rubber stamp for Trump’s chaos and higher costs, and that is why she will be decisively rejected in November.”
A spokesman for the Democratic Governors Association also weighed in, calling Garrity an “average candidate.”
“Stacy Garrity won Trump’s support by participating in MAGA and embracing the achievements that cost Pennsylvanians the most,” she said Izzy Levi in a statement. “Garrity 100% supports the Trump administration gutting access to health care and increasing costs, stripping food aid, eliminating energy jobs and stripping away basic freedoms – all while spreading dangerous and debunked lies about the stolen 2020 election. To use a word Garrity loves to use to describe the Keystone State, she is average candidate running a mediocre campaign and all the support in the world won’t change that.”
