Gov. Josh Shapiro, during a Monday night televised appearance, admonished former President Donald Trump to “stop whining” and said it was critical not to give the former president the ability to nominate more U.S. Supreme Court justices.
“All they hear from Donald Trump is a whole bunch of complaints about this country, and I think Donald Trump should stop whining, stop trying to divide us,” Shapiro said during a spot on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki, describing how he perceived Pennsylvanians’ attitude toward Trump. .
“More people went to work in America this morning than at any time in our nation’s history,” he added. “So I got a message to Donald Trump and all his negativity and whining: stop talking about America. This is the greatest country on Earth and it’s time we all started behaving like it.”
Asked whether he thought Trump’s 34-felony conviction would have an impact on undecided voters in Pennsylvania, Shapiro added that he didn’t know “how the conviction will end.”

Shapiro noted that Trump’s 2016 victory led to enough justices on the court to overturn Roe v. Wade (Trump appointed three justices during his term), and stated that if he reclaims the presidency, different laws may be at risk.
“You really want to give Donald Trump the opportunity to appoint more Samuel Alitos and more Clarence Thomases to the court,” Shapiro said. “Do you really want to give him the opportunity to put more people on the court who will take away our basic freedoms?”
“I really fear that this is just the beginning and if Donald Trump is given the opportunity to lead this nation again and put more of these types of judges on the courts, it will not only set us back four years, but it will also keep him with us for 40 years.” added.
As of June 10, President Joe Biden and Trump will be on the ballot in Pennsylvania ahead of the November election, although many third-party candidates such as Jill Stein AND Robert F. Kennedy Jr. they insist on appearing on the ballot as well.
But Shapiro called the presidential election a “binary choice.”
“Don’t let anyone tell you there are other people on the ballot,” Shapiro said. “Many random tickets on the ballot with no chance of winning are a binary choice between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”
AND Pennsylvania Poll from Mainstreet Research, PolCom Lab and Florida Atlantic University published on June 4 shows that Trump leads Biden by 2 points in a head-to-head matchup, but when Kennedy is added as a choice, he pulls 8% votes and gives Biden a 2-point advantage over Trump.
After the 2020 elections Trump has sued several battleground states, including Pennsylvania, on the outcome of the race. Shapiro was the state’s attorney general at the time and noted that Trump’s attempts to overturn the election had failed.
“He’s complaining, bemoaning the fact that he lost, making excuses and trying to deflect from personal responsibility,” Shapiro said. He added that if Trump wins, he will try to “execute revenge” on his enemies through the justice system, adding that this should “scare all Americans.”
Late Monday, the Republican National Committee responded to a request for a response to Shapiro’s comments without mentioning the governor by name, focusing on Biden.
“Joe Biden’s approval ratings in Pennsylvania are low and Democrats know it,” RNC spokeswoman Rachel Lee said in an email to the Capital-Star. “Despite its best attempts to gaslight voters, the Keystone State knows that Joe Biden’s defeat is to blame for rising costs, a growing border crisis and skyrocketing crime rates across the country.”
