Harrisburg, PA – October 21, 2025 − Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-Montgomery/Delaware) released the following statement today in response to the Senate vote on Senate Bill No. 160: :
“Today’s actions in the Senate were significant for several reasons.
Senate Republicans can’t get their houses in order, and it’s impacting every corner of Pennsylvania: driving our schools into debt, depriving district employees of paychecks, and threatening the social services that members of our community rely on. Senate Republican leaders said on the record that their caucus only had the votes to finance last year’s budget, which they know will not pass the House or receive bipartisan support. And with the ever-increasing cost of living, a budget with fixed financing is a tight budget.
Instead of working across the aisle to find votes for a budget that can pass both houses of the General Assembly, Republican senators continue to act unilaterally. Pennsylvanians deserve better.
At a time when we are living through a GOP federal government shutdown with no end in sight, dramatic inflation, and consumers bearing the brunt of Trump’s tariffs, Pennsylvanians need a government that actually works for them, and that includes investing taxpayer dollars back into our communities. Unfortunately, the proposal presented today in the Senate was not adopted.
At its core, the state budget proposal that Senate Republicans put on the ballot today is an insult to Pennsylvanians who have waited more than 100 days for a state budget. I voted NO.
To my Republican colleagues: It’s time to step up and start working on behalf of your constituents. “Democrats stand ready to work with you to get this done for every Pennsylvanian.”
