Harrisburg, PA – September 10, 2025 -Deziaj State Senator James Andrew Malone (D-36, Lancaster) joined the chairman and executive director Suicide Prevention Alliance Govan Martin, Suicide Survivors and supporters of awareness of awareness of consciousness of preventing suicides in Pennsylvania’s capital.
Together with Senator Tina Tartaglione (D-2, Philadelphia), Senator Malone introduced resolutions 138 AND 144 Recognition of September as a month of preventing suicides and September 10 as a day of preventing suicides. Studies show that open and forthright conversations about mental health can reduce the risk of death by suicide, and Senators Malone and Tartaglione introduced resolutions to augment awareness and encourage people to open conversations with friends and family about their mental health.
“About 1 out of 13 people in Pennsylvania report serious mental health challenges,” said Senator Malone during his comments. “Sometimes the difference between life or death for someone who is fighting can be a simple conversation. It can be a friend or neighbor reaching out to check in.”

“It should also be noted that firearms are the most common method used in suicide in the US,” continued Senator Malone. “They calculated over 50% of them in 2023 as a weapon owner and hunter spokesman, I am a strong supporter of responsible weapon ownership. Proper storage of firearms is an important part of the safety of our loved ones. I encourage everyone to buy equipment for safe storage of firearms.”
