Confusion in Philly as the Sanctuary City List removed from the DHS website

The confusion around the recent release by Trump’s administration with a mass list of so -called sanctuary in this week after the government removed the list from the Internet.

Then there was a weekend criticism on the part of the National Sheriff Association, which said that allegedly “incompatible” sheriffs on the list could harm the relationship between administration and law enforcement agencies.

The list appeared briefly for some people on Monday morning before it disappeared again.

“I hope that Trump can raise the Bible and saw countless teachings to welcome his neighbor and love his neighbor as himself, but I doubt,” said Peter Pedemonti, a co-director of the novel Sanctuary movement in Philadelphia.

The list increases, and then down shows how the administration is “cruel but incompetent,” he said on Monday.

“This is not a moment of exhalation,” he said, noting that Trump threatened that he would exceed federal funds for jurisdictions that do not lend a hand enforce federal immigration regulations. “Philadelphia and any other counties should be prepared to submit lawsuits and fight at every stage.”

The confusion around who was listed on the list began almost immediately.

The leaders of Pennsylvania’s three rural counties, which Trump won by over 20 percentage points, were surprised when their federal funds were now threatened. These poviats controlled by GOP never had the so -called policy of the sanctuary surrounding immigration, which is the main goal of the Trump administration.

The only policy of the “sanctuary”, which some of them were implemented in response to the initiatives of the sanctuary elsewhere, aimed at confirming their loyalty to the principles of the federal government.

In Central Pennsylvania, Montour, commissioners took up a resolution in 2021. “Sanctuary of the County”. Clarion County, Western Pennsylvania, about 37,000 inhabitants, adopted a resolution calling “Sanctuary unwinds of the corrections” In 2021, the doubling of rights to weapons and refusal to enforce all rights limits access to weapons.

Philadelphia was noticeable on the Trump administration list, he has long been a leader among the cities of the sanctuary. The list tried to list jurisdictions, hundreds of the whole country, which according to administration do not lend a hand enforce federal immigration regulations – as a result in the face of federal finances.

Philadelphia did not receive any official notification from the federal government about potential cuts related to the announcement of DHS, the city of Renee Garcia said on Monday.

On the website of the Department of Internal Security, the page on which the list of “Jurisdictions of the Sanctuary” has been noticeable since the sending on Thursday evening shows “No page found“Error message.

DHS issued a statement behind schedule Monday morning, which said: “As we said earlier, the list is constantly checked and can be changed at any time and will be regularly updated.”

Sheriffs are criticizing the list

The removal will take place after the National Sheriff Association issued a statement eating a statement that criticized the inclusion of many cities and poviats as “arbitrary”.

“This list has been created without any information, compliance criteria or a mechanism of opposition to the designation,” wrote the President of the National Sheriff ‘Association, sheriff Kieran Donahue from Canyon, Idaho, supporter of Trump Who Who Who He visited the White House in April.

“DHS has terrible damage to President Trump and the sheriffs of this country. The president’s goals to reduce crime, secure the boundaries and make America take a safer step back,” Donahue added at the weekend. “Sheriffs of this country feel betrayed.”

Patty Torres, executive director of the Make Road PA immigration group, said on Monday that “insolent excessive prejudice in local politics and independence were relying by this random list, and cities pushed away. Unclear lists of enemy are simply a weak cover for purposes and not much that he doesn’t agree with DC.

Speaking on Sunday morning Fox News, secretary of DHS Kristi Noem said nothing about removing the list, but he mentioned the criticism about the inclusion of some jurisdiction.

“Some cities pushed away,” NEEM said morning Futures on Sunday. “They think because they do not have one or other right in books that they do not qualify, but qualify.”

She added: “This list is absolutely used and it will identify these cities and jurisdictions that do not honor Law and Justice.

The list, which covered areas in 30 states, accused local leaders of “intentionally and shameful” obstructing the enforcement of federal regulations and exposing the American communities.

Philly Suburbs are still trying to answer

Removing the list meant that officials from the Philadelphia district were surprised as when they were released.

“I don’t know, it’s a crazy world,” said Josh Maxwell, a democrat, who chaired by the board of commissioners of Chester on Monday. “I hope they receive more accurate information.”

Three of the four districts of collars in Philadelphia – Chester, Montgomery and Delaware – were listed as the jurisdiction of the sanctuary, which violated the federal immigration law.

Bucks County, One Swing County in the region and the only unit that voted for Trump last year, was not considered the Sanctuary toy. His sheriff tries to work with ICE through a controversial partnership agreement.

None of the four poviats approved the politicians who declare to the jurisdiction of the sanctuary.

From Monday morning, officials in the poviats said that they had not yet heard directly from the federal government explaining them on the list or consequences of inclusion.

While some hoped that the removal of the list indicated that jurisdictions could leave it, they also pointed to the general unpredictability of Trump’s administration.

“This in a sense speaks about” the act first and asking questions later “the tendency of the current presidential administration,” said the councilor of Delaware Christine Reuther.

The democratic commissioners of Montgomery Neil Makhija and Jamila Winder published an article of the Inquirer opinion last month, stating that no employee of the countess would be obedient to lend a hand ICE. They said that the novel immigration service officer in the county is working on making sure that the county employees are not asking about the immigration status of residents.

Despite the pressure to receive a formal welcome policy, officials of the unit said that they lacked power.

Commissioner Tom Dibello, a lonely Republican on the board, said on Monday that the end of last week spent contacts in Washington, including the Republican US representative Brian Fitzpatrick, looking for an explanation for the inclusion of the inclusion of Montgomery’s unit on the list.

“It doesn’t make any sense for me,” said Dibello. “If my queries turn out to be fruitful, we’ll be deleted from the list.”

Similarly, Commissioner GOP Chester, Eric Roe, said that he tried to contact his colleagues who worked for DHS, hoping to contact the agency.

Roe said that Chester’s unit is doing everything in his power to cooperate with ice.

“Why distinguish us, why put us in the rest of the south -eastern when we were cooperating?” He asked.

The Republican Sheriff of the Bucks, Fred Harran, applied for participation in a controversial program that would allow his deputy to cooperate with ICE. However, when Acl threatened with a lawsuit, the Council of Commissioners under the leadership of Democrats expressed disapproval and insisted that the agreement was invalid without their support.

The Trump administration stated in a statement for information organizations last week the areas were selected on the basis of several factors that included “self -identification as a jurisdiction of the sanctuary, non -compliance with federal law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of immigration provisions, restrictions related to sharing information and legal protection for illegal aliens.”

Last week, Philadelphia, which once stood proudly among the strongest cities of the sanctuary, formally rejected the name.

Garcia, the city’s lawyer, said: “Philadelphia is not a city of the sanctuary. We are a friendly city.”

The same was repeated by other officials.

“Philadelphia is a friendly city,” said a member of the city council of Rue Landau in a statement on Thursday evening. “It was our position, and this list is Trump’s attempt to instill greater fear and uncertainty of the immigrant community.”
