Responding to the huge need revealed on the basis of implementing previous home repair programs, the PA house protection program will boost resources available to support critical safety repairs for low and moderate houses owners.

Harrisburg, PA – May 29, 2025 – Today, citing the need for a constant response to the ongoing housing crisis in Pennsylvania, a double -sided, two -party group of legislators announced a legislative proposal for the PA House Protection Program.

The regulations are sponsored by Senators of the state David Argall (Raid R – Luzerne, Carbon and Schuylkill) AND Nikil Saval (D -Philadelphia) in the Senate and Representatives of the Lindsay Powell state (Crummary D – Allegheny), Brandon Markosek (Ellegheny Fine), AND Tim Twardzik (R -Schuyllkill County) At home.

“As a chairman of the double -sided task of Pennsylvania’s confusion, I saw first hand how the communities in our state, from our largest cities to towns with two streets, can be stretched through the plague, decaying buildings,” Senator CLA said. “Helping families in critical repairs stops the plague before it can stop and ensures that our districts will be safe and flowering.”

In his February budget address, Governor Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro proposed an investment of $ 50 million to create a up-to-date housing repair program throughout the state. Previous home repair programs revealed a huge need for resources to support home owners in maintaining aging houses; Almost 20,000 people remain on the waiting lists.

The PA house protection program satisfies the need, falling into the most successful aspect of previous programs: providing critical safety repairs to home owners. This program will allow thousands of households throughout the community of nations to repair their homes each year, while fighting with damage and resettlement of the community.

“Each person has the right to a safe home, a house that is healthy. Hundreds of thousands in Pennsylvania are simply denied it because they lack the resources needed to repair the houses” Senator Saval said. “Over the past few years, local poviats have tirelessly worked to connect residents with key resources to ensure their homes security and healthy for their families, but the needed need has a significantly overtook available funds. Thanks to the PA house protection program, we can start satisfying the size of the needs.”

Almost 60% of houses in Pennsylvania were built before 1970, and before 1940 a quarter of the occupied houses was built, leaving many house owners who try to keep up with the necessary repairs and crushing media bills. A study of voters in Pennsylvania conducted in 2022 showed that one in four life in a home in need of a critical repair, and one in three struggles with media bills, which are “unattainable”.

“Throughout Pennsylvania, families live with leaks, broken stoves and dangerous cabling, and the repairs are out of reach” said Rep. Powell. “This legislation creates a targeted, state program to solve the most urgent problems related to health and safety in aging homes. Helping families working in their homes, we not only prevent resettlement-we invest in long-term stability and life of our communities.”

“As the chairman of the House Housing & Community Committee, I know how important it is to maintain houses throughout Pennsylvania, and our account will lead to greater protection” said a representative of Markosek.

“On today’s tense housing market, our program will help our neighbors stay in their homes, while improving safety, comfort and peace” said a representative of TW andK.

By enabling families to maintain heat, safety and arid in their homes and communities, repairing houses build generational wealth, boost community consistency and boost public health and security. Thanks to the creation of a dedicated initiative to repair the houses, the proposed program for the protection of the PA houses will allow Pennsylvania to repel the epidemic of destruction of states throughout the country and start a significant counterattack against the housing crisis.

Considering the size of the need, the legislators are working on adopting the law before the niches of the General Assembly for the summer.
