Vice President Kamala Harris won’t be the only candidate on the presidential ticket visiting Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, is heading to Philadelphia on Tuesday for the first time since becoming the Republican vice presidential nominee last month.
Vance has had a rocky start to the campaign, marked by earlier comments critical of childless women — “childless cat people”, as he described them — and Trump, whom he previously referred to as “moral catastrophe“And”reprehensible.” Elegy for the Peasants The author changed his stance on Trump during his Senate campaign and apologized for his past comments about him, saying in a 2021 interview with Fox News, “I regret being wrong about the guy.”
“I’ve always had great respect for him and the other candidates,” Trump said of Vance during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists last week. “Historically, the vice presidential pick doesn’t matter. You vote for the president. And you can have a vice president who is exceptional in every way — and I think J.D. is, I think everyone would be — but you don’t vote that way, you vote for the president.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s vice presidential running mate in 2016 and 2020, is not supporting the former president after he refused to advance a plan to overturn the 2020 election results.
Vance’s comments come just hours before Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to attend a rally Tuesday evening at Temple University’s Liacouras Center, where she is scheduled to deliver a speech at about 5:30 p.m.
What time will JD Vance speak in Philadelphia?
Vance is attending the event at the 2300 Arena on South Swanson Street in South Philly. The entertainment venue, which often hosts wrestling, boxing and MMA events, has a capacity of about 2,000.
According to the Trump campaign, doors are scheduled to open at 10 a.m., with Vance scheduled to speak at 12 p.m.
Will there be any road closures on I-95 or elsewhere?
Although the Secret Service does not provide routes for obvious reasons, there will likely be intermittent closures on I-95 on Tuesday as Vance travels between the airport and South Philadelphia.
Police said drivers can expect delays and traffic delays in the immediate area around Vance’s event in South Philadelphia, but his visit is not expected to cause major traffic disruptions.
Vance is touring the same states as Harris this week.
Philadelphia won’t be the only city Vance and Harris will be in on the same day.
According to Politico, Vance plans to follow Harris and her campaign through several battleground states this week. He will follow Harris to Detroit and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, then head to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday.
Will JD Vance debate Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris?
That’s not entirely clear, especially since Harris is still considering who could be his vice presidential running mate.
The vice presidential debate was scheduled for September 25 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, but the event was canceled.
There may also be no next presidential debate. Trump withdrew from an ABC debate that, before Joe Biden withdrew from the race, was scheduled for Sept. 10. In its place, Trump has proposed a Fox News debate on Sept. 4 in Pennsylvania that would include a live audience.
“I will be there on September 10, as he agreed” Harris wrote on social media“I hope to see him there.”
When is the next Donald Trump rally?
Trump’s calendar is rather empty this week.
The former president’s next rally is scheduled for Friday in Bozeman, Montana. Trump is scheduled to speak at 10 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local time).
Trump won Montana by 16 percentage points in 2020, but his visit is intended to boost Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who is running against incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester. Trump visited Montana four times in 2018 campaign for Representative Matt Rosendale, who lost to Tester by 3.5 percentage points, or about 17,000 votes.
