This is the first in our series highlighting the most essential mayoral races in the commonwealth.
Democrats are competing in the Erie mayoral race Daria Devlin vs. Republican Mateusz Tomasz. Notably, no Republican has been elected mayor since 1961.
Daria Devlin (D)
- Basic: defeated two-term incumbent Joe Schember50.1% – 46.1%
- Experience: Director of Social Impact at the Hamot Health Foundation. He founded the Erie Public Schools Partnership and founded the Erie Center for Arts and Technology (ECAT). Former member of the Erie School Board.
- Priorities.
- Apartments. We must balance housing supply and demand while stabilizing our neighborhoods, ensuring access to housing opportunities for all.
- Economic and workforce development. We must create pathways to economic advancement by maintaining and growing our local businesses, encouraging the development of recent, groundbreaking industries in our region, and investing in job training that prepares our workforce to work in the high-impact industries of the future.
- Youth involvement. We must create opportunities for civic engagement, career exploration and innovation to support youth across the city and make Erie a city where the next generation can thrive.
- Budgeting for the future. For too long, the City of Erie’s budget has been incapable and unsustainable. It’s time to balance the budget, improve services and prioritize city government efficiency, while increasing transparency so you can see how your taxes are being used.

- Basic: ran unopposed
- Experience: Attorney, leverage law
- Priorities.
- He wants a tough policy on crime, completely secure streets and lower city taxes for residents.
- Schools. recognizes the need to create vocational schools that give children the opportunity to acquire skills that will allow them to find a well-paid job
- Partnerships. As companies have made many commitments to return to the U.S., he will aggressively pursue them through partnerships with our state and federal representatives and other similarly sized community leaders.
